Bring some FOCUS to your spiritual life!

ADULT LEARNING at GAC aims to provide Bible-centered learning opportunities for adults which will foster individual and corporate spiritual growth through instruction focused on one or more of the following areas: the promotion of biblical and theological depth; guidance in Christian living; training in spiritual disciplines; and development of leadership.

We need to make time to learn and to refocus our lives. This fall GAC will offer a number of adult learning opportunities. A variety of themes, formats and times allow you to find a place that will nurture your spiritual growth. November 2010 will be a month with a special focus on adult learning.

ADULT LEARNING!! Is this an oxymorone?

I have found my 50 year old husband saying, to those who will listen, “research has shown that once a man reaches 50 years of age his brain starts to shrink, but the good news is that his ears start to grow”. I have some good news for him, – even adults with shrinking brains can learn, change and grow…and big ears can be attractive on some men.

Many have a notion that learning is for children, but not necessary for adults. I’m sure you have heard the saying, “you can’t teach an old dog new tricks”. The sentiment behind this is that as people grow older they stop learning. Marcia L. Conner writes, in her article How Adults Learn, “If you ask a group why adults cannot learn, it may surprise you how many begin answering the question without challenging the premise. Unfortunately, many adults deny themselves what should be one of the most enriching parts of life because they assume they can’t learn.”

At GAC, we believe that adults can learn and that they have a responsibility to be students of God’s Word who are continually growing and being transformed. In God’s eyes, even an old dog can learn new tricks. In 2 Peter 3:18 men and women are instructed to “grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ…” and Col. 1:10 instructs Christians to bear fruit in every good work and to grow in the knowledge of God.

The Adult Discipleship Ministry desires to see each adult experience the blessing of learning, which is “one of the most enriching parts of life”. That’s why we offer a variety of learning opportunities that will lead to a life transformed. The modules are participant friendly, interactive, practical, relevant, and valuable for life and godliness. They help strengthen the individual, families and marriages as we each “grow in the knowledge of God”.

So, be a student of God’s Word; be an adult who learns and continually grows.
