Many of us read the Bible and find it to be an enriching and life-transforming experience. But not all of the time. Sometimes the Bible is a difficult book to read. We can find it confusing, or dry, or even bizarre. We can find ourselves feeling guilty about this – after all, this is God’s Word to us. Shouldn’t we be delighted with it all the time?
There’s a reason for some of these difficulties we experience when reading the Bible: it was written thousands of years of ago to diverse audiences from equally divers (and to us, sometimes strange) cultures. Reading the Bible is a cross-cultural exercise! But it is also a “cross-spiritual” exercise. We come to the Bible having to undo old, unspiritual ways of thinking. This course is designed to help participants learn how to bridge the gulf between us and the Bible. It will give you clear and practical principles and tools for reading the Bible with understanding.
The Bible IS God’s Word to us. It IS rich. We CAN enjoy its richness. It just takes a bit of help to bridge the gulf – which is exactly what God is into, and what this course is all about.
